Welcome

Hello parents and others interested in autism.

Since the publication of my husband’s memoir Bad Animals: A Father’s Accidental Education in Autism, we have received requests for help from other overwhelmed parents who are trying to deal with the diagnoses and challenges of their children as well as the inadequate and often dehumanizing public services (waiting lists that last through early childhood, difficulties with schools, lack of government support, etc).

Children with autism have deficits in so many areas, and also can learn and improve in so many ways. I think these facts contribute to the confusion around treatments, because when someone has success in a limited area with a specific treatment, it can be exaggerated to seem like the systemic issue is diminishing. There is a lot of information and many choices to sort through when dealing with autism. We have chosen to make use of treatments that are supported by serious research and data. As a guiding principal, I agree with Autism Pundit (and parent) Sabrina Freeman's motto: "Question everything, expect evidence...."

Below are some links to some information that our family has found helpful.

I am so glad to see that you have put this together. I have several friends who will be pleased to have this resource as well.
Well done! I hope it will take off and be a beacon of hope to the many struggling to make sense of this diagnosis in their family's life.
Thank you.
